Our Mission : Ensuring
Rights To All
We are a statutory autonomous
body to protect your rights. This is through the Protection
of Human Rights Act, 1993 which came into force on 28 September
1993.
The Act provides for the
constitution of State Human Rights Commissions. We are known
as the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission.
We in the State Commission endeavour to prevent violation
by public servants of your rights. This we do by accepting
complaints from you of any such violation by a public servant.
We can even inquire into violation on our own without the
receipt of any complaint if the case so warrants.
We also seek to protect your rights. This we do by timely
intervention in the court proceedings and visits to jails
and custodial homes.
We also seek to promote human rights by supporting human rights
literacy and encouraging efforts of non- governmental organizations
and institutions that work in this field.
Thus, we are concerned with the three P’s of human rights-
PREVENTION, PROTECTION AND PROMOTION.
